Antony and the Johnsons Announce North American Tour

BY Brock ThiessenPublished Dec 15, 2008

With the release of The Crying Light just around the corner, Antony and the Johnsons have announced their first set of 2009 tour dates.

While making several stops in the U.S., the tour lands on Canadian soil on February 17 in Toronto and February 27 in Vancouver, giving audiences an all-too-rare glimpse of Mr. Hegarty in full-fledged live action.

In addition to the tour update, Antony and the Johnsons have also just revealed the album art for The Crying Light, which, like the group's recent Another World EP, stars Japanese butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno. This time the portrait is from 1977 and taken by Naoya Ikegami in Tokyo.

According to a statement from Hegarty, "The Crying Light is dedicated to the great dancer Kazuo Ohno. In performance I watched him cast a circle of light upon the stage, and step into that circle, and reveal the dreams and reveries of his heart. He seemed to dance in the eye of something mysterious and creative; with every gesture he embodied the child and the feminine divine. He's kind of like my art parent."

The Crying Light hits shops in the U.S. and Canada on January 20 via Secretly Canadian. Here are the upcoming supporting dates:
