Appliance

Imperial Metric

BY Ian DanzigPublished Aug 1, 2001

Taking a dark pop tangent from their previous full-length, Exeter, England's Appliance has added prominent vocals to flesh out their moody post-rock grooves. Imperial Metric mixes experimental ambient work with the '80s post punk of Joy Division and the early electro pop of Cabaret Voltaire and Kraftwerk. What results is a brand of dark wave that certainly makes this Appliance's most accessible outing, successfully mixing rock grit with electronic groove on haunting pop tracks like "land, sea and air" and "H2O."
