Dartmouth, NS-based R&B star Lance Sampson — a.k.a Aquakultre — has launched a GoFundMe campaign to get a community studio project off the ground.

Sampson is looking to create a hub for the artistic community in Dartmouth, which he's envisioning as something like Radstorm in Halifax, where bands and artists split the rental costs and invest in the space evenly. Eventually, he plans to develop a booking system that allows locals to use the space when they need it, and, in Sampson's words, "create a spot where we hang, make music, rehearse, do our art, mix and master, experiment and grow as a community."

"Today I am asking the community to help with something I have been striving to start forever, and I have finally been [given] the opportunity to," the artist wrote in the crowdsourcing appeal's description, adding that an affordable rental had finally come up.

Created yesterday, the GoFundMe has already raised nearly $1,000 of its $2,500 goal, which will help him pay for the first three months of rent ($650 per month) as well as supplies to outfit the space.

Sampson, who released his latest album Don't Trip earlier this year, is hoping to meet the fundraising goal by December 1.
