Celebrating its fifth birthday, Wake the Giant Music Festival returns to Thunder Bay's waterfront on September 14. Organizers behind the event, founded on the principles of inclusivity and commemorating Indigenous culture, have now announced the 2024 lineup.
Arkells, Walk Off the Earth and Galantis will be this year's headliners, with additional performances from DJ Shub, Thunder Spirit, Chester Knight, Ira Johnson Band, Drives the Common Man, and a mystery guest who has yet to be revealed.
"Get ready for the biggest birthday bash Thunder Bay has ever seen! This year's lineup is a fun, energetic group of performers that will really capture the vibe of celebrating five years of not only the festival, but the Wake the Giant movement," co-founder and organizer AJ Haapa said in a release.
"Wake the Giant is so much more than a music festival," co-founder and organizer Sean Spenrath added. "Every September, [Indigenous high school] students at [Dennis Franklin Cromarty] DFC leave their homes, families, friends, and everything they are familiar with to come here for school. Wake the Giant is trying to make the experience better for these students and create a community where everyone feels welcome."
In addition to live entertainment, festivalgoers can enjoy an art installation, local eats and an Indigenous craft market. There's also a Kids Zone, with children ages 12 and under able to get into the festival for free — just select the General Admission option at Wake the Giant's ticketing site.
Tickets for those older than 12 will be sold in a supply-based tiered structure, with prices going up each time a tier sells out. Early Bird tickets are already sold out, but as of this writing, Tier 1 pricing is currently available in addition to VIP options.
