Luckily for Arthur Russell fans, the late musical visionary has seen many of his works reissued over the years, including those that were initially released after his death in 1992. Now we can add another welcomed re-release into our lives, as his posthumous compilation Another Thought will soon be getting its first-ever vinyl pressing.
Featuring tracks recorded between 1982 and 1990, the collection was first released two years after the New York composer's death. It was initially issued on CD via Point Music and compiled by Mikel Rouse and producer Don Christensen, with a later CD release coming courtesy of Orange Mountain Music in 2006. Both labels, however, neglected to ever press the collection of tender avant-pop songs on vinyl — something newly launched UK label Arc Light Editions will soon remedy.
While there is no due date yet for the vinyl pressing of Another Thought, The Quietus reports that it will arrive this fall. The vinyl edition will come on double-LP and will feature newly imagined artwork, which you can see above.
Of Another Thought, the label writes, "While it is a collection of tracks in various stages of completion, often sparse and direct, it is perhaps the most sonically coherent album ever released of Russell's material. Another Thought includes appearances by trombonist Peter Zummo, percussionist Mustafa Ahmed, additional vocals by composers Julius Eastman and Elodie Lauten, plus Joyce Bowden, Jennifer Warnes and Steven Hall."
Pre-orders have not begun yet for the reissue, and it's unclear how limited it will be. For now, keep your eyes on the label's website.
