Experimental rap crew Atmosphere have a new album coming our way. While last fall Slug and Ant dropped the 12-song, 41-minute To All My Friends, Blood Makes the Blade Holy, that project was officially labelled an EP, so this new LP, titled The Family Sign, will be the proper follow up to 2008's acclaimed When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold.
Set to be released by Rhymesayers on April 12, Atmosphere's new album is purported to be the "most realized, streamlined effort to date." A press release explains that the combination of Slug's heartfelt lyrics and Ant's production encompass "the entire spectrum of human emotion while tethering each piece to a central aural aesthetic."
While a tracklisting has yet to pop up, The Family Sign sounds as if it's going to be a heart tugger, with Slug spitting on "fatherhood, loss, love, disappointment and jubilation."
Furthering their eclectic sound, the duo will be joined by keyboardist Erick Anderson and guitarist Nate Collis.
The group have yet to announce a tour in support of the new album, but the press release continues that the indie-hop juggernauts' "2011 itinerary is slated to include venues with capacities upwards of 9,000."
