After a bit of teasing, rising New Orleans R&B crooner August Alsina has now given his previously hinted-at full-length debut for Def Jam a title and a due date. The apparently ultra-personal Testimony will arrive April 15.
A press release notes that the street date is one of significance, being that it also marks the birthday of Alsina's older brother Melvin LaBranch III, who was shot and killed on a New Orleans street back in 2010. The events of the fatal shooting were recently revisited in the video for Alsina's Downtown: Life Under the Gun single "Don't Forget About Me."
As for the new LP, a tracklisting has not yet been revealed in full, but the album will include the recently premiered "Make It Home," which features a guest appearance from Jeezy and was produced by the Featherstones. Elsewhere rapper Yo Gotti is said to appear, while production duties are also being handled by Knucklehead, Eric Hudson, Drumma Boy, Jasper Cameron, the Exclusives and Cassius Jay.
Like his older material, Alsina's Testimony is set to explore personal hardships and "serious family issues including death, homelessness and addiction." The LP is also dedicate to his brother.
"I struggle with how much of myself to give to the people," Alsina said in a statement. "How much I want my personal business to be judged. I think the EP struck a good balance of who I am and what I've been through, but that was just the beginning. Nothing is held back on Testimony. When people hear my story, and see that I came from nothing, they'll see that it's possible for them too."
In addition to the upcoming LP, the R&B singer has a number of U.S. dates coming up with 2 Chainz and Pusha T. The trip starts up in early February, and you can get the show info over here.
