Aurist

Not Here

Liam Adams is barely out of his teens, yet he already has a handful of albums floating around the Internet. This prolific Londoner (who records as Aurist) revels in digitally produced drones. Not Here (his first release for net label Amoebic Industries) showcases Adams' keen ear for texture and rhythm. His fluid drones drift enchantingly, augmented by feedback and distortion. "Dekindling" is the closest Aurist gets to a full-on sonic assault, with percussive stabs and a loud chorus of noise; it's the perfect introductory ear conditioning to get one in the mood. "Blind and Elated" is the most rhythmically complex of the four tracks, while the ultra-short "Mes Rois" has the most density and textural intricacy. "Powerless" combines all aspects of the Aurist sound, delivering a one-two punch of meaty distortion and shimmering drone. With Not Here, the precocious Adams has certainly demonstrated a skill beyond his years.
