As the music world continues to mourn the passing of EDM superstar Avicii, reports have emerged that producer died by suicide from using pieces of glass from a broken bottle to cut himself.
TMZ reports that multiple sources familiar with the circumstances surrounding Avicii's death confirm that he died from self harm, using a shard of glass to cause "massive bleeding." The sources differ as to how Avicii caused the fatal injury: two claim the injury was in his neck, while a third source claims it was in his wrist.
The possibility of suicide was alluded to both in a statement from Avicii's family and a Rolling Stone article last week. In the statement, his family wrote, "He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace."
As previously reported, Avicii (born Tim Bergling) was found dead on April 20 at the age of 28. While no cause of death has yet to be officially confirmed, the DJ was found dead in his hotel room while vacationing in Oman in the capital city of Muscat.
No foul play is suspected. Avicii had retired from touring in 2016, though had continued to release music in the years since.
