Babe Rainbow

"Combed"

Besides running the Music Waste fest and the yearly Victory Square Block Party, Vancouverite Cameron Reed also performs burnt electronic music as Babe Rainbow. Self-described as "surf-step," Reed applies the hazy atmospherics of a West coast shoreline to some abstract form of dubstep. While he hasn't actually released anything official yet, Reed has attracted a ton of blog love with his misty re-edits of Wavves and You Say Party! We Say Die!, along with his own swampy tracks.

Here, on "Combed," a bending 8-bit sound makes room for some gentle synths as a veiled dub groove hides behind the murk and distortion. Soon, a beat is built from a single snare, growing with weirder, near-ghostly sounds. It's thumping electro suited better for the creepy basement dweller than the hopping club; just the right mix to add some gloom to your summer.

Snatch "Combed," along with all of Babe Rainbow's other work, at his frequently updated blog. And it's safe to say that a hip electronic imprint will snatch this up soon for a proper release.
