Baroness Unearth New Album 'STONE,' North American Tour

They're bringing the new music to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal this fall

Baroness have announced their highly anticipated sixth studio album, led by new single "Last Word." The face-melting metallers have also mapped out the Sweet Oblivion Tour, which will bring them to five Canadian cities this fall.

STONE is due September 15 via the band's own Abraxan Hymns, following 2019's Gold & Grey — one of Exclaim!'s best metal and hardcore albums for that year. This time around, Baroness elected to self-produce the record, holing up for a month in a vacation house in the mountains of Barryville, NY.

"The recording process was completely self-contained," the band's Sebastian Thomsen explained in a press release. "Having just the four of us in a rented house in the mountains for a month resulted in not only a cohesive and authentic sound, but also an intense collective mentality." It has resulted in another reinvention — and an LP that John Baizley describes as "a lot more alive, more direct." You can watch the video for our first taste of the new sound, "Last Word," below.

The Sweet Oblivion Tour kicks off on October 13 in Baltimore. The next month, Baroness will cross the border to play their first Canadian stop at Vancouver's Rickshaw Theatre on November 4, followed by Edmonton's Union Hall on November 6 and Calgary's Palace Theatre on November 7. After dipping back into the US, they'll hit Toronto's Danforth Music Hall on November 19 and Montreal's Beanfield Theatre on November 20 ahead of wrapping things up on December 1 in Philadelphia.
