Barshasketh, the black metal powerhouse originally hailing from New Zealand and now based in Edinburgh, Scotland, conjure intense, mystic vibes with their music, and pack a serious punch with their latest release, Ophidian Henosis.

Mystery abounds here: The title refers to the ancient concept of unity between serpents, and the cover art is epically dark, but the track listing keeps things bare bones, listing songs only as "I," "II," "III," etc.  However, each song stands alone as a strong part of a seven-part saga about destruction and rebirth. The third and fifth tracks, especially, work on their own as strong offerings, absolute black metal blasters.

If you are into heavy and mysterious black metal in the vein of Deathspell Omega, you will dig this album. The songs are superb, and the production is on point.
