Washington, D.C.-based singer-songwriter Bartees Strange was just announced as Calgary music and arts festival Sled Island's 2023 guest curator, and you could say he's pretty excited about it. So excited, in fact, that he's looking to make his tenure in Canada a little longer than the five-day fest.

Joining the ranks of Lizzo and Laura Jane Grace, the artist born Bartees Leon Cox Jr. has expressed his desire for the country to adopt him on Twitter.

Though Grace has her sights set on Winnipeg specifically, we are thus far unsure if Cox has a city — or heck, even a province or territory — in mind. He does shout out Toronto in "Heavy Heart" from his great 2022 album, Farm to Table, though, repeating, "we should go to Toronto more often," so maybe he's made his choice.

"Excited to curate the festival," the singer-songwriter said of Sled Island in an earlier tweet. He added that he had invited a bunch of artists and assured us that "it's gonna be very hot."

Sled Island takes place at various venues across Calgary from June 21 to 25, but we're filing the adoption paperwork for Bartees immediately.
