The new Charlatans album has been making headlines for months now, all on the basis of being absosmurfly free. As of Monday, the bands tenth studio album, You Cross My Path, was made available as a free download via Xfm.co.uk and boy does it sound like the last two New Order albums!
Talking to Xfm about the record, Charlies lead singer Tim Burgess said: "We always knew this album was gonna be given away for free, even before we started writing so we wanted to make it the best album we've ever made. This isn't a case of left over tracks and b-sides, we wanted to give our fans a quality record."
Visit the radio stations micro-site or just click here to immediately begin downloading the album as a .zip file. And remember, for those devoted Charlies fans looking for something more than digital love, the band will be releasing a CD and a special vinyl 45 boxset two months on May 19. However, those will cost you money. Physical love aint free!
One person wholl definitely be shelling out for at least the CD version of You Cross My Path is Johnny Cash imitator and Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix, who had this to say about the album: "Holy fucking shit, the Charlatans record is mega. A real beauty. I can't wait to see it live. Thats got to be at least the equivalent of a 7.9 on Pitchfork.
