Beams

"You Are an Ocean" (video)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Apr 16, 2018

Toronto psych-folk outfit Beams have unveiled a new video for "You Are an Ocean."

The track appeared on this year's Teach Me How to Love LP, and the accompanying video marks the second in a trilogy directed by Christopher Mills.

We were introduced to the series with "I Wanted to Tell Her," and now Mills has paired "You Are an Ocean" with visuals that capture the song's themes of "isolation, immersion and the cyclical nature of life."

The clip sees frontwoman Anna Mernieks swirl and splinter into incarnations of her bandmates thanks to the use of green screen, projection mapping and animation. According to Mills, the effect is one that "creates a rich dream world which swoops, moves, spins, time-lapses, and double exposes over itself, like momentary memories, laid on top of one another."
