Last year, Bedouin Soundclash frontman Jay Malinowski teamed up with Coeur de Pirate to release an EP as Armistice. Now, the songwriter has embarked upon another collaborative project with a string trio called the Deadcoast. On November 20, the singer and his new group will release the Indian Summer EP through Pirates Blend.
The project dates back to earlier this year, when Malinowski moved from Toronto to Vancouver to be closer to his family. Working with a violist, cellist and violinist, Malinowski revisited some of the ideas he had been working on as part of a previously scrapped project.
The five-song EP was co-produced by Mark Dolmont, who contributed field recordings of oceans and forests captured throughout the Pacific Northwest. A press release notes, "The album is a nostalgic memory of growing up on the Pacific Ocean, recorded in Malinowski's home in Gastown." The Saint James Music Academy children's choir sings on two tracks.
Jay Malinowski & the Deadcoast will begin recording a full-length in December. Before then, they will tour Europe and play Canadian dates in Toronto and Montreal this fall. See the schedule below.
