Tongue-wagging Kiss bassist and reality television star Gene Simmons recently found himself in a less than flattering light when he expressed sympathy for Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling to the Wall Street Journal last week. While their motives were unclear, that may explain why garage rock shit-disturbers the Black Lips recently ambushed a Gene Simmons video interview.
Simmons was on-air for a live broadcast of the Huffington Post's "HuffPost Live" segment, where fans could submit questions to the rocker via webcam. Appearing in crudely drawn black and white facepaint, three of the four Black Lips chimed in.
"Mr. Simmons! We're here to tell you that the day of misogynistic, sexist rock'n'roll is over!" they said. "We call for the complete and utter surrender of the Kiss Army. Lay down your guitars! Do you accept our terms of surrender?"
Simmons appeared unfazed from the line of attack, though he did respond with some fairly shitty dad jokes. "I want to compliment your mom for the wonderful way that she designed the decoration on the basement she lets you live in," he said. "I think it's very attractive. I hope you get to leave your mom's basement soon."
Then, when host Ricky Camilleri mentioned that they were actually a band called the Black Lips, Simmons pointed out that they're not actually black, and asked if they were in fact racist. For what it's worth, the Black Lips have been accused of casual racism on multiple occasions in the past.
Regardless of any of that, the interchange between Gene Simmons and the Black Lips is so awkward and hilarious, that it's definitely worth a watch. Check it out below.
