Big Boi: "OutKast are stronger than ever"

Hip-hop’s favourite pair of OutKasts, Big Boi and Andre 3000, have quashed all rumours of a breakup, saying fans should expect a full-length by the beginning of 2009. "OutKast are stronger than ever," Big Boi says.

In a recent interview with MTV, Big Boi laughed off all rumours that he and Andre had gone their separate ways. The two have just been too busy pursuing other interests to actually sit down nice and proper with the new OutKast album, he said. Since the group’s last effort, 2006’s Idlewild soundtrack, Andre has started a career as a fashion designer and an actor (recently starring alongside Will Ferrell in the comedy Semi-Pro), while Big Boi has focused on his debut ballet, simply titled Big.

However, amongst the whirlwind of their various projects, Big Boi says they have indeed started on the next OutKast album. "We got a few songs we already picked out," Big Boi told MTV. "We pick the beats first. I drop my [solo album] in July, Dre puts his out [later this year], and we drop that Outkast record at the top of [next] year."

Yes, that’s right. Two solo albums, as well. Before the year’s end both rappers will each release separate albums of new material. In fact, Big Boi’s record, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, already dropped the single "Royal Flush,” which features both Andre and Wu’s Raekwon.

"I said I wanted to bring that hip-hop back," Big said of Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. "My album is about lyricism and about the craft. I saw Raekwon and he jumped on it. Actually, me and Raekwon recorded three songs. We were gonna finish it with just me and him. When Dre came back from Japan, he heard it and said, 'I wanna be on that.' I gave him the beat. He came back in a couple of months and was like, 'Let's do it.'"

As of yet, no confirmed release date, title or tracklisting has been confirmed for the new OutKast record.
