Bill Callahan Preps Novel

Even at his prolific pace - an album every year or two since 1990 - veteran indie singer-songwriter Bill Callahan has found the time to pen his first novel. The book will see release this July, courtesy of Callahan's label, Drag City.

As Pitchfork has indicated, Callahan's novel, Letters to Emma Bowlcut will drop July 20. Drag City has revealed that the book takes epistolary form, which means the narrative is told through a series of documents, rather than by an omniscient narrator.

In a year-old interview with Anthem Magazine, Callahan claimed the book was "an epic poem in the form of letters" and that he'd "been working on it for several years."

In related news, Callahan released a live album titled Rough Travel for a Rare Thing in March. His last studio album was 2009's Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle.
