Bill Callahan has never exactly played by the rules; after all, he began releasing experimental lo-fi recordings long before that was a trendy thing to do. Now, the singer-songwriter has announced that he has a new album coming out, and he's done so in typically unconventional fashion.
Rather than send out a press release, Callahan announced his new album via the graphic above. As you can see, it's a scan of a crumpled, Old West-style poster that doesn't give much info beyond the title and release date. The album will be called Apocalypse and it will be out on April 19 in vinyl, CD and digital formats. Like almost all of Callahan's albums, it will come out via Drag City.
While we don't have any more info beyond that, we're guessing that this is a new studio LP. This bare-bones announcement is eerily similar to the 22-word press release that accompanied the unveiling of 2009's beloved Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle.
Callahan's last release was a live album, 2010's Rough Travel for a Rare Thing. With the release date of Apocalypse less than three months away, we can expect more information to start emerging soon.
