Black Atlass (a.k.a. Montreal-based producer Alex Fleming) made his Fool's Gold debut last summer with his "Paris" single, but up next for the modern R&B explorer will be a slightly fuller EP effort called Young Bloods.
The six-song set drops February 18 and is described in a press release as mixing experimental production with "classic singer-songwriter confessionals." The first taste of the set is the EP opener "Blossom," which Fleming told Billboard was a song that takes root in personal experience, but is also about "anyone's first love."
He continued: "It describes a period in my life where I was experiencing something completely new and exciting and complicated and pure and all of those feelings were being shared, minute for minute with someone else. I wanted to capture that feeling, and be able to remember it and feel it again every time I hear or perform the song."
The rest of the EP is said to mine funk influences and uses D'Angelo as a touchstone for its "Free Angel." You'll find all the tracklisting info down below, along with a stream of the the dark and smoky, synth-stricken "Blossom."
In addition to the "Paris" single, Young Bloods follows Black Atlass' self-titled EP from 2012.
Young Bloods:
1. Blossom
2. Free Angel
3. The Rose
4. Young Bloods
5. Burning Man
6. Jewels
