For those eagerly anticipating Black Kids debut album, dont get your hopes up too high. The hotly tipped Jacksonville outfit has warned the follow-up to last years MySpace-only EP is, at this point, "terrible.
In a recent interview, vocalist Reggie Youngblood spoke about the bands recording woes, primarily focusing on their enlisted producer, Suede axe-man Bernard Butler. "Its coming painfully but surely, Youngblood told Xfm, "It seems like every track is a big fight and conflict, bloodshed and tears. Bernard Butler has to re-record everything that we do once we lay it down. Hes no joy to work with either. Its all going down hill with this album though. Its terrible, terrible veering straight off the path.
Apparently, Butler has garnered quite the bad reputation as a producer. When working with on the Libertines "What a Waster/I Get Along, he replaced all Pete Dohertys guitar lines for his own, and Sons & Daughters also recently said Butler strained the bands relationship.
But Butler aside, Youngbloods comments on MySpace, where the band still freely share the massively praised Wizard of Ahhhs EP, seem to show the band like to work at their own slow pace without a meddling producer pushing them along. "[MySpace]s basically done the job for us, we cant be bothered to leave the house. People used to burn CDs and sell them from the trunk of their cars, like MC Hammer. He was on the road really working his ass off hitting the pavement and all we did was throw some songs up on MySpace to see what happened. If it wasnt for MySpace, Christ. We're just too lazy!
