Since rising from the ashes of L.A. punks Mika Miko, the sister duo of Jessica and Jennifer Clavin (aka Bleached) have offered up three jangly 7-inches on just as many labels. The band have now revealed that they've switched things up again, and will deliver their debut LP next year through the Dead Oceans imprint.
An interview with Spin unveiled that the band have been recording the as-yet-untitled album between studio spaces in Burbank and Los Angeles' Echo Park neighbourhood with producer and collaborator Rob Barbato (Darker My Love). If all goes according to plan, the record will contain 10 new songs that broaden the band's sonic palette and arrive sometime in the spring.
"What we really wanted to do was explore," Jessica told Spin of the new tunes. "We've been doing this since we were teenagers and we have a certain sound on our last three 7-inches, but we wanted to show some variety. This new record has songs you'll be familiar with, but there are also things that will be a surprise. It's just really fun."
The song cycle was constructed on the road and apparently became a little softer than the group had initially anticipated. With Bleached still in the studio, it's too early to tell how the album will play out compared to their 7-inches on Suicide Squeeze, Ooga Booga and Art Fag, but Jennifer said that "she was expecting it to be a lot faster."
"This feels more pop than punk," she added.
