Locals Bleu haven't been around long, but they've already established a favourable reputation in St. John's, and their dancing fans in front of the stage provided proof.
Singer Marcus McLaughlin's voice isn't particularly practiced, but his songwriting is; though they played a cover of the Velvet Underground's "Who Loves the Sun" as their set's penultimate track, they matched it with an original that had all that song's melodic sweetness and a lot more fervour, all ringing guitar lines courtesy of the band's second guitarist, and a ripping bass line. It was the kind of moment that wins a band fans.
Bleu play a classicist indie rock sound, but there was enough energy and surf-y influence in their set to charm listeners throughout. Plus, they're young, indicating that there's a lot of room for this band to grow, and for Bleu, that potential is huge.
