BY Cam LindsayPublished Aug 18, 2008

Surprise! Following short-notice releases by artists like Radiohead and Raconteurs, Bloc Party have let the cat out of the bag that this coming Thursday (August 21) they'll release their brand new album digitally. Titled Intimacy, the band's third album was announced today (August 18) during a web chat with fans.

Like Girl Talk's recent album, Intimacy will also be available eventually on CD. Atlantic plans to put it in shops on October 28, featuring additional songs. The band have set up a pre-order for the CD, which gives fans the ability to download the album digitally on August 21.

Bloc Party's third album was produced by Paul Epworth (Silent Alarm) and Jacknife Lee (A Weekend in the City), and mixed by alt-rock heavyweight Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN). The band are calling it both "wildly experimental" and "classic Bloc Party," which is essential lead single "Mercury" in a nutshell.

You can pre-order both the digital version (for $10) or the CD version and digital (for $20) by clicking here.
