So remember that whole Bloc Party countdown thing? Remember how the clicking clock posted on their website led to an announcement of a Monday radio spot? Well, that radio spot on the BBC has now happened and during it the UK buzz rockers revealed their new single "Mercury, a track that ditches much of the bands tightly wound minimalism for a bigger, choppier, horn-filled direction.
According to the folks at Billboard, the song may or may not appear on Bloc Partys upcoming third album, which is expected sometime later this year. "We are making the record I always wanted us to make, so we just can't wait for it to be done," front-man Kele Okereke told host Zane Lowe during the program.
For now, "Mercury will arrive as a single August 11 in the UK, with a North American release expected to follow shortly thereafter. Bloc Party have also already posted a video for the track on YouTube and can be seen below. In the Ace Norton-directed clip, you get a chance to see what happens if apes went all Dr. Moreau on us humans, and needless to say, the outcome isn't pretty.
