Bloc Party leader Kele Okereke is once again going solo for an upcoming album, and to show off a bit of his new material, he's shared the new track "Yemaya."
The song marks the first to come under the musician's full name, and it kind of makes sense considering that "Yemaya" is a purely solo acoustic offering and a far cry from his dance-geared material as Kele.
In statement, here's what Okereke said about the song:
In the west African Yoruba religion, Yemaya is the mother goddess of the ocean, she is kinda the patron saint of pregnant women and fertility. According to myth, when her waters broke, it caused a great flood creating rivers and streams and the first mortal humans were created from her womb. When I knew we were having a baby she started to be appear in my thoughts and dreams a fair bit.

The song is expected to appear on a new solo album from Okereke, who told The Guardian late last year that the "solo work that's quite different to what I've done in the past."
"Over the years, with Bloc Party, I've been moving away from playing the guitar to exploring more electronic textures, but this record is the opposite of that," he said at the time. "It's something that is very intimate and it's really for my dad. But it's not finished yet, so I don't want to talk about it too much."
So far, though, the album is without a title or release date. Next month, though, Okereke will be playing a solo acoustic tour in Europe and the UK.
