Dev Hynes's triumphant 2013 is coming to a tragic close with news that the R&B artist often known as Blood Orange "lost everything" in an apartment fire last night (December 16).

The news came from Hynes himself, who confirmed via a series of tweets that his dog Cupid had sadly died in the fire and that he also lost music, hard drives and other items in the blaze. Hynes was thankfully not at home at the time.

It's unclear at present how the fire began.

He wrote:

Last night, the unthinkable happened. My entire apt burnt down while I was out. I've lost everything I own, including scores, hard drives, clothes, sentimental items. Everything from my life is gone. My dog died in the fire. I will love you forever Cupid. I miss you. I still don't own a phone. So email me if you need to get in touch. I might need some time. Thanks.

Hynes had released his Exclaim!-favourited Cupid Deluxe LP earlier this fall.

UPDATE: As Pitchfork points out, the mother of Friends vocalist Samantha Urbani (who collaborates with Blood Orange and is Hynes's girlfriend) has set up a GoFundMe campaign in order to help Hynes in this time of need. The fundraising effort has already passed its $5,000 goal, but you can donate to it here.
