Blue Fields

It was only a matter of time before Canadian Mike Shannon set out for new ground. After a decade cultivating his talent and performing around the world, his focus has started to finally shift away from the dance floor. In his latest venture, he's joined by Japanese classical guitarist Takeshi Nishimoto, who is no stranger to collaborations within the electronic sphere. Takeshi's work is recognizably respected through his alliance with Los Angeles-based tech-house pioneer John Tejada. Shannon and Nishimoto, alongside Turkish vocalist Fadila, embody a jazz-infused, minimal, downbeat experiment known as Blue Fields. Their debut release is a refreshing expedition for the trio, who attempt the seamless amalgamation of organic improvisation with more conventional dance rhythms. The record weaves together moody, beat-less ambiance and funky cocktail grooves, but flourishes when each of them assert their strength. With Shannon on beats, Takeshi's ethereal atmospheres and Fadila's haunting vocals, Ghost Story tells a seductive tale that's intimate, inviting and satisfyingly soothing.
