Bobby Long Announces 'Wishbone' LP

Having delved into bummed-out blues with 2011's A Winter's Tale, New York-based British songwriter Bobby Long is switching up the mood a bit for the full-length follow-up. Wishbone is out via MapleMusic Recordings/ATO Records on February 19.

The album was produced by Ted Hutt (the Gaslight Anthem, Old Crow Medicine Show) in Los Angeles. It reportedly finds Long delving into slightly more aggressive sounds than on past work, and a press release explains, "Long taps into a broader palette of emotions than he has on past releases, eschewing melancholy and eloquently channeling anger and frustration into gritty, hard driving guitar (Long played a majority of the guitar heard on the album) parts that compliment his rough-hewn vocals."

This moodiness is balanced out by steel guitar and reportedly well-hewn songs. Interestingly, Wishbone was recorded using one of Elliott Smith's guitars, which was lent to Long by producer Rob Schnapf.

For a taste of the album, hear the twangy "In Your Way" below.

Expect Long to tour in 2013. He's announces some European dates (the schedule for which you can see here), but he's yet to confirm any shows on this side of the pond.
