Boot

Virvla

BY David LewisPublished Dec 1, 1999

Swedish trio Boot creates upbeat dance music, from the rhythmic aggression of “Alvdals Polska,” to the dramatic fusion of lute, percussion and hand claps in “Lehmankello.” Boot’s strident energy here and in “Peppe,” “King Karl’s Halling/Wild Honey” and the flamenco-style “A Little Beauty” generates musical intensities with gypsy abandon. The gothic dirge ballad, “The Spool,” and pretty duo performance s like “Ebba’s Wedding Polska” add atmospheric lyricism to the drama. Boot is a durable project that will take you on a musical journey filled with convincing kicks.
