Boris Announce 'Noise,' Map Out North American Tour

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 8, 2014

Three years after issuing a trio of genre-jumping albums, Japanese outfit Boris have announced their next eclectic offering, Noise. The band's latest album arrives June 17 through Sargent House.

A press release for the album notes that the group's upcoming eight-song effort features the pared-down lineup of drummer/vocalist Atsuo, guitarist/vocalist Wata and bassist/guitarist/vocalist Takeshi, and together the trio "masterfully intermingles sludge-rock, blistering crust punk, shimmering shoegaze, epic thunderous doom, psychedelic melodies."

The band began working on the set in early 2013 as a streamlined three-piece formation, with goals to further explore the extremities of "aggressive, intense rock." First single "Quicksilver," which you can hear below, takes on thrash and hardcore properties via hyper-speed runs and screaming, while "Heavy Rain" is described as a "heavy and ethereal" approach to shoegaze, and "Vanilla" is apparently marked by "frenzied psychedelic metal riffing."

Shortly after the album hits shelves, Boris will head out to North America for a stretch of summer tour dates. The schedule, which you can see below, includes Canadian appearances in Toronto and Vancouver.

Noise follows 2011's New Album, the shoegaze-inspired Attention Please and Heavy Rocks.
