This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 spaceflight to the moon, and Brian Eno has announced plans to mark the occasion with an expanded edition of his Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks album.
The anniversary release, set to arrive July 19 through UMC, will feature an accompanying album of 11 new instrumentals alongside the original album, which was remastered by Miles Showell of Abbey Road Studios.
Released in 1983, Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks was written, produced and performed by Brian Eno, brother Roger Eno and Daniel Lanois. Written to soundtrack Al Reinert's Apollo 11 documentary For All Mankind, the album was recorded at Lanois' studio in Hamilton, ON.
The disc of additional material, which shares a title with Reinert's film, marks the first time the Eno brothers and Lanois have collaborated as a trio since the original recording sessions. A first taste of the bonus disc can be heard below, where you'll find the track titled "Like I Was a Spectator."
Eno was recently revealed to have contributed music to the forthcoming Top Boy revival.
The expanded edition of Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks is available for pre-order here.
