Brian Wilson is not a Canadian, but there's no denying the impact that Beach Boys songsmith has had on musicians all around the world. Therefor it's no surprise that he will be honoured at this year's NXNE festival.
A ceremony will be held for Wilson in Toronto on June 16 at the Hyatt Regency. It starts at 6:15 p.m. and is free to the public, with NXNE pass holders receiving priority entry. It's being hosted by Blue Rodeo's Jimmy Cuddy, and marks the first instalment of the NOW Magazine Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be given to Wilson.
As if the prospect of seeing a pop icon for free wasn't reason enough to come see the event, here's an added incentive: the first 50 NXNE pass/wristband holders who show up will also be admitted to Wilson's live show at Massey Hall on June 18 via a rush line. That means that at least 50 NXNE attendees will have a chance to see the former Beach Boy in the flesh twice in three days.
This celebration is part of Brian Wilson's first-ever cross-Canada tour, which will take him all the way to the West Coast in support of last year's Brian Wilson Reimagines George Gershwin.
