Britney Spears has finally broken her silence following the release of Hulu's New York Times Presents documentary Framing Britney Spears, revealing that she is "embarrassed" by the way she was portrayed and that the film made her cry "for two weeks."

Alongside an Instagram video of Spears dancing to Aerosmith, the singer shared that she has yet to watch the full documentary, but felt the parts she saw cast her in an unfavourable light.

"My life has always been very speculated... watched... and judged really my whole life," she wrote. "It takes a lot of strength to TRUST the universe with your real vulnerability cause I've always been so judged... insulted... and embarrassed by the media... and I still am till this day."

She continued: "I didn't watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in... I cried for two weeks and well... I still cry sometimes."

The Framing documentary aired back in February without the input of Spears or her family. It exposed Spears' legal battle over her conservatorship, which is controlled by her father, and the singer's limited control of her life, finances and health.

Another documentary about the decade-long conservatorship held by Jamie Spears is in production by the BBC. The doc will see BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azhar travel to Los Angeles to meet with fans from the Free Britney movement while also detailing the conservatorship.

Despite all the extra attention, Spears appears to be in good spirits. "I do what I can in my own spirituality with myself to try and keep my own joy. I'm not here to be perfect... perfect is boring... I'm here to pass on kindness," she said.
