Britney Spears took to Instagram last night to shut down rumours that she was in the process of making a new album with Charli XCX and Julia Michaels.
"Just so we're clear most of the news is trash," she captioned the post. "They keep saying I'm turning to random people to do a new album ... I will never return to the music industry!!!"
Perhaps symbolic of her music career apparently ending or her feelings towards the media, Spears wrote the message beneath an image of a woman carrying a man's head on a platter.
"When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people," she continued. "For those of you who have read my book, there's loads that you don't know about me ... I've written over 20 songs for other people the past two years!!! I'm a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way!!!"
Although she didn't hint at who she might be writing for, fans of the ultimate 2000s pop diva can be encouraged that she's still making her mark on the music world, even if she isn't releasing songs of her own.
In 2022, Spears made similar comments regarding live performances, saying her 13-year conservatorship traumatized her to the point of never wanting to play another show.
