Spoon have spent some of 2013 working on a new album, but frontman Britt Daniel has taken some time away from his band to record a cover of "Love Letters" by '60s pop singer (and veteran actress) Shelley Fabares.
The dark, murky cover sports a pretty arrangement of acoustic strumming, keyboard plunks and droopy-eyed singing. This is overlaid with noisy, psychedelic ambient textures and atmospheric reverb.
The cover was recorded for Rookie Mag. Daniel told the magazine that he is very familiar with Ketty Lester's version from Blue Velvet, but he hadn't heard the original until recently.
