Broken Social Scene fans had a long wait for the group's third LP, Forgiveness Rock Record, which came five years after the band's 2005 self-titled album. Luckily, it looks as if the wait for LP No. 4 won't be nearly so long, as the band have already begun making recording plans.
BSS co-founder Brendan Canning told Vancouver weekly the Georgia Straight that the group have unused material from their most recent sessions, which could be used for a new studio full-length.
"From the Forgiveness Rock Record, we still have a bunch of music that's kind of left over," Canning said. "I think the trick is to record a little bit more and fill in the pieces where they need filling in, and maybe we have another record."
In addition to this revelation, the band's Forgiveness sessions have already proved to be extremely fruitful. Along with producing a 14-song album (and earning a shortlist nod for the Polaris Music Prize), they also put out a ten-track bonus disc of "lovely little soundscapes" called Lo-Fi for the Dividing Nights.
And while future album plans still sound very much up in the air, Broken Social Scene are currently wrapping up a string of North American dates with the Sea and Cake and play Vancouver tonight (October 13) and tomorrow. They will then head to Europe before returning to Canada in December, for a run of shows that includes a Toronto performance with Superchunk, who, as luck would have it, are also playing Vancouver tonight.
