Last fall, we learned that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band would be spending 2012 touring in support of a new record. Sure enough, more details about the album have now hit the web thanks to Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau.
The manager told Rolling Stone that the new album "big-picture piece of work. It's a rock record that combines elements of both Bruce's classic sound and his Seeger Sessions experience, with new textures and styles."
With the help of producer Ron Aniello and guests including Tom Morello, Springsteen reportedly created an "experimental effort" that "both rocks and is very fresh."
So what exactly does he mean by "experimental"? A source told the Hollywood Reporter that it contains "unexpected textures -- loops, electronic percussion," resulting in "an amazing sweep of influences and rhythms, from hip-hop to Irish folk rhythms."
The sources added that Springsteen "feels it's the angriest album he's ever made," and that "He gets into economic justice quite a bit."
Landau neither confirmed or denied this, but noted that the record has "social overtones" and a pronounced spiritual dimension. It extends and deepens the vision that has animated all of Bruce's work."
Of course, we can expect Bruce to promote the album with extensive touring. Stay tuned for updates, as the new LP will reportedly be announced soon.
