Many Generation X-ers and Millennials grew up listening to Bruce Springsteen, and soon we will be able to pass the Boss's words on to the next generation thanks to his new children's book. Outlaw Pete will arrive on November 4 through Simon & Schuster.
Springsteen penned the words, while Frank Caruso drew the illustrations. Outlaw Pete takes its name from a song on Springsteen's 2009 album Working on a Dream, which in turn was based on the 1950 kids' book Brave Cowboy Bill.
"Outlaw Pete is essentially the story of a man trying to outlive and outrun his sins," the Boss said in a statement. Of course, in this children's adaptation, the title character is a bank-robbing baby in a diaper.
It was Caruso's idea to turn the song into a book. "When Bruce wrote Outlaw Pete he didn't just write a great song, he created a great character," Caruso said. "The first time I heard the song this book played out in my head. Like Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn, Dorothy Gale and for me, even Popeye, Outlaw Pete cuts deep into the folklore of our country and weaves its way into the fabric of great American literary characters."
The hardcover book can be ordered here, while digital versions are available at various online retailers.
