Bruce Springsteen's Recording Engineer Played Some Unreleased Outtakes at Mexican Radio Conference

Including a previously unheard version of "Born in the U.S.A"

Toby Scott — Bruce Springsteen's longtime recording engineer who's worked on 18 of the Boss's albums — appeared at this past weekend's SoundCheck Xpo in Mexico City.

As reported by Stereogum, Scott played some alternate versions of Springsteen songs during his presentation at the fest, most notably a previously unheard version of "Born in the U.S.A." This new (old) version — which Scott played alongside the solo acoustic demo that Springsteen recorded in 1982 — is a much bluesier, rough-and-tumble take than the glittering behemoth that we'd eventually get.

You can hear about a minute of that version in the video below at the 23:49 mark.

Springsteen's last album was 2020's Letter to You. Last year it was announced that he'd sold his masters and publishing catalogue for a cool $500 million USD to Sony Music and Sony Music Publishing respectively.
