Legendary first wave punks Buzzcocks have announced that they'll deliver a new album later this year, marking their first record of originals since 2006's Flat-Pack Philosophy.
The band revealed their plans late last week over crowdsourcing service PledgeMusic. Though an album title has yet to be revealed, Buzzcocks plan to have a digital release of their ninth full-length ready for May, with CD and LP editions arriving sometime in the summer.
A tracklisting has not yet been offered in full, but a quick slideshow-style trailer for the impending set features snippets of a pair of new tunes, including "The Way (You Are's Not the Way You Were)." You can check out the trailer over here.
Fan can pledge now for either the album on its own or the record packaged with extra incentives. A download of the LP is currently going for £8 (roughly $14 Canadian), while other packages include physical pressings of the set, rare test pressings, T-shirts, a meet and greet with the band, handwritten lyrics to "any classic Buzzcocks song" (unless it was written by Howard Devoto), or Pete Shelley's Eastwood Starway guitar.
In addition to helping fund the recording project, five percent of pledges will go towards the Teenage Cancer Trust. You can find out more info over here.
Buzzcocks also noted that they'll be road-testing their new material this spring on a UK tour. You can see the overseas show info over here.
While the yet-to-be-named album will be the first record of original material in close to eight years, the group did re-record some classics for their A Different Compilation in 2011.
