Calexico are set to release their first-ever holiday album Seasonal Shift next month, and today they've given us another taste of what's to come with a new cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Christmas classic, "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)," alongside a video with animation by Johnny Sanders.
"I love this song and I love the universality of the lyrics and the call and response sea of voices," the group's Joey Burns said of the track. "I decided to start as quiet as possible and find out how loud and massive we could make this song build."
Previously, Calexico released "Hear the Bells" from the record, which is being billed as "less of a Christmas album and more of a cross-cultural seasonal celebration." Along with the Lennon cover, the 12-track release will also feature a rework of Tom Petty's "Christmas All Over Again."
Seasonal Shift will arrive on December 4 via Anti-.
