Calvin Love is set to follow up 2012's New Radar with the forward-thinking Super Future, and although the new record doesn't arrive until next week, Exclaim! is giving you the chance to stream it in its entirety right now.
The Edmonton-based experimental popsmith performed and recorded the new offering entirely on his own at his Cool Creep Studios, so it makes sense that it's a pretty personal affair.
"Super Future is a projection of my hopes and dreams, a snapshot into my life, a time capsule of work to reflect upon," he said in a statement. "My vision-highway to self-discovery through song, love, and experience. Driving the dream through the confounded paths of outside influences and expectations. Keeping a straight line through the darkness, with only one headlight and knowing that the strange, the beautiful and the unknown are nothing but my best friends."
That sentiment manifests in myriad ways throughout the tracks on Super Future — from the restless, impulsive desire to run away on smooth electro-pop opener "Girl" to the groove-infused beats on "The Rush" to the aptly outer-spacey acoustic pop of "Calls from Jupiter." Unabashedly unafraid to experiment, Love explores a wide array of sound and style on the record, ranging from upbeat synth jams ("Luna") to romantic soul-pop with killer bass lines ("Daydream"), and it all wraps up with the jangly, drifting psych-pop of "You & I."
Super Future arrives on June 16 via Arts & Crafts, but you can give it an early listen in the player below right now if you're in Canada.
