Progressive metalcore unit Cardinals Pride have put forth a tight and furiously paced package on their latest EP, Those People Will Never Die. The five-song set doesn't stray from the formula it establishes from the beginning, but the technical precision that's apparent here is nothing short of impressive. The syncopated blasts and shredding lead riffs in "Refracted" incorporate melodic tapping and sweeping runs, which then transition into bouncy off-kilter breakdowns, while "Bearers" incorporates a few moments reminiscent of melodic hardcore, making for a nice change of pace from the speedy assault of the other tracks.
The technical prowess that Cardinals Pride demonstrate is, in a way a double-edged sword, due to the fact that any and all of the moments written into the album to be memorable — the clean vocal hooks, for example — are outweighed by the chaotic instrumentals, making it hard for the songs to really stick in one's mind. Still, Those People Will Never Die incorporates a number of interesting and varied sounds from the metal spectrum.
