Casiokids

Aabenbaringen over aaskammen

BY Michael EdwardsPublished Oct 12, 2011

Up to this point, it appeared that Norwegian band Casiokids were all about having a good time at the club. Their earlier releases highlighted their fun pop side, but they've started to stretch their wings on their first North American album, Aabenbaringen over aaskammen. It all starts rather shockingly, with a highly orchestrated instrumental that suggests a drastic change, but things get back on track by song number two, which has that familiar bouncy synth. They aren't done though ― there are some mellower moments and the band are more than happy to play around with new sounds and move in new directions. Because of that, the album isn't as consistent as its predecessor (which was admittedly a singles compilation), but it does offer much more depth without compromising their ability to create those perfect pop moments. And with "Golden Years" and "Det haster!," it's clear that Casiokids are here to stay.
