Casket Lottery

Survival Is For Cowards

BY Stuart GreenPublished May 1, 2002

One of the shining stars of the Midwestern emo/grunt rock scene (inhabited by the likes of Guilt, Hum and Shiner), the Casket Lottery continues to cut a wide swath through the landscape with their third, and best, full-length. Combining the intricate and ambient noodling of their Choose Bronze debut and its dark, dense follow-up, Moving Mountains, Survival Is For Cowards is as complex as it is introspective and hard rocking. The guitars scream, the drums pound and the bass throbs throughout the ten tracks that rise and fall with roller coaster extremes of intensity. Survival Is For Cowards is a great album from a band that keeps getting better.
