Cassegrain & Tin Man

Acid has undeniably been on a bit of an upswing as of late. 2012 saw notable album releases on California's Acid Test label (a subsidiary of Absurd Recordings) from acts such as Recondite and Tin Man. The latter (a.k.a. Vienna-based Johannes Auvinen) was well known for his love of Roland's 303 before there really was an acid revival, with his EPs on Global A being released close to a decade ago. Paired here with the dark, stomping techno of friends Cassegrain, the EP builds upon their four-song Carnal release from earlier this year. High And Low finds the trio even more seasoned in their collaboration, delving further into acid with impressive results. Released on Berlin label Killekill, High And Low consists of three slabs of beautifully transporting acid techno that bears a passing resemblance to Richard D. James' work in the '90s as Polygon Window, but much darker and, despite the nostalgic value of squelchy 303s, firmly rooted in the here and now.
