Chelsea Wolfe

"The Waves Have Come"

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Aug 20, 2013

While Chelsea Wolfe's upcoming Pain Is Beauty is promoted as having "a decidedly more electronic direction," the newly premiered "The Waves Have Come" is another elegantly ornate, organic and ominous piece from the singer-songwriter.

Detailed in a press release as a "heartbreaking story of love, loss and death in a natural disaster," the song is initially presented as a painful, piano-driven torch song. Over the course of its eight-minute runtime, the arrangement also brings out crashing drums and kleenex-demanding string runs to complement Wolfe's vibrato vocal melodies ("When earth cracks open and swallows then we'll never be tired again, and we'll be given everything the moment we realize we're not in control").

As previously reported, Pain Is Beauty arrives September 3 through Sargent House, just after Wolfe begins her North American. You can get the show info over here.
