The Internet got a little flustered last August when Mickey Mouse Club alum turned raunchy pop star Christina Aguilera announced she was "working with Santigold, M.I.A., Ladytron - artists that I really love" on a new album. Since when did the "Genie in a Bottle" have good taste? Well, the previously vague album details have suddenly been given a great deal more clarity, courtesy of Aguilera's official website.
It looks as if Bionic, Aguilera's fourth studio album, will hit North American shelves June 8, and will indeed play host to a quite the formidable guest list. The website points out that "Bionic features songs co-written by Aguilera along with her much buzzed about collaborations including Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Le Tigre, Hill & Switch, and Ladytron among others."
Strangely, there's no word if Santigold and M.I.A. are still appearing on the record.
The album's first single, the Polow Da Don-produced "Not Myself Tonight," will debut on the website at 6 p.m. EST on March 30. However, the site will host an "exclusive preview" of the song tomorrow, March 26, at an undisclosed time.
In the website's press release for Bionic, Aguilera revealed a lot about working collaboratively.
"Working on this album with so many talented artists and producers that I admire was really an amazing experience," she says. "The artists I chose to work with added so many unique sonic layers to Bionic. My intention was to step into their world and what they do combined with my own vision and sound. The results were magic."
She also talked about her multi-genred approach to the album, saying, "I was able to explore and create a fresh, sexy feel using both electronic and organic elements with subject matter ranging from playful to introspective. I am so excited for my fans to hear the new sound. It is something I don't think anyone will expect."
Bionic was recorded in Aguilera's home studio following the birth of her first son, and we gotta say, we might just be a little excited about this one.
